These phrases have sputtered from my mouth far too much lately. I have a two year boy, remember, and he loves to live life to its fullest. I was thinking though, maybe he would be more willing to sit if he could plop his little back-end into one of these totally rad vintage chairs. Do you think it will work? I know, probably not, but aren't they so pleasing to the eye and cute, I just love them. Someday, when Baby 'L' is all grown up, I will wish I could say "come sit with mommy." I must go give him big hugs, you can stick around and check out these incredible little tike seats.

I purchased this awesome car litter bag as a gift for my sister from Allyson Hill who makes modern accessories for your automobile. I know, a litter bag as a gift, but my sister has five wee ones that she hauls around and look how dang cute it is, not to mention handmade.

I wouldn't mind having one for myself, my sister really loves hers. Allyson Hill offers her car litter bags and tissue cozys in many different fabulous fabrics, the above is done in Avocado Ginger Tile by Sandi Henderson.

Message Board/Calendar Holder - Tutorial

My message board design evolved from the shape and size of salvaged wood I retrieved from a local cabinet maker. I often get long narrow pieces and wanted to come up with something that would hold a calendar and this was it. The elastic band was added for the purpose of holding messages, invitations, and appointment cards.

And now you can make your own with this nifty tutorial.

This picture made me do a head tilt...something about the angle of the picture of items. Anyways here is your supply list. Oh, and I have to apologize for my winter stricken hands, these photos were taken during the winter months--add genetics, frequent hand washing, dry air, and below zero temperatures and you get hands like mine. I would never make it as a hand model that's for sure.

SUPPLIES

~ wood

(you can use any size that will work with your calendar, mine is 15"w x 4"h)

~ fabric

~ staple gun

~ felt

~ nail

~ glue gun(not pictured)

~ cup hook 1/4"

~ elastic (I use cotton elastic)

~ sawtooth hangers

~ rotary cutter

~ mat

~ quilt ruler

~ pencil

~ decorative embellishment (optional)

This is my decorative embellishment to be added to the front of the elastic band. I made my own flower pattern and cut it from felt and added little pearls for the center, cuteness.

On one side of your wood piece find the center and mark with a pencil--this will be the bottom of your message board. * You can also mark the back of your wood so you remember which end is the bottom it can come in handy when you add your embellishment to the front.
{2}

Place your nail on your pencil mark and hammer the nail in about 1/4", this hole will be used to screw your cup hook in. *If you are using a really hard wood you may need to drill a pilot hole instead.

Cut your fabric piece to be approximately 2" larger then your board on all FOUR sides. *This will make your fabric four inches wider and taller. Place your wood centered on your fabric piece. If you are using a repeat patterned fabric like mine, you will want to line your wood evenly with your pattern.

Pull your fabric over your wood firmly on the center of one side and staple, repeat this to each side. The center of all four sides stapled should look like the above picture.

Continue to staple around each side--making sure to pull the fabric tightly while stapling so the fabric is nice and snug to the wood. *You can alternate your sides to keep your pattern even. Your staples should be relatively close together. Once you have stapled along each side you will have little flaps of fabric on each corner.

Taking care of the corners. Pinch the corner fabric together.

With you corner piece pinched, pull the piece tightly over the top and to the back and staple 2-3 times. It will create a little triangle as shown in the picture above.

Once all four corners are stapled, cut the excess fabric to reduce bulk on the back.
All cut.

Add your elastic band by placing it on the back centered and staple multiple times. Pull your elastic band around the front tightly and staple to the opposite side.

Band added.

I did not add pen holders to the tutorial message board but they can easily be added after your band is added. Simply cut two elastic piece about 2" long and create a little loop and staple the ends multiple times to the back of your wood. I generally place them about 3-4" from the side. *See the above picture for an example, you can even sew little buttons to the loops if you want.

With a rotary cutter, ruler and mat cut a felt piece approximately 1/4" smaller than the size of your wood on all FOUR sides. *Your piece will be a 1/2" smaller than the width of your board and 1/2" smaller than the height of your board.

Using your glue gun run a small bead along the top of your felt and glue to your on all four sides.

Add your sawtooth hangers to the back.

{13}

Add your embellishment with needle and thread.

{14}

Remember that hole you made with your nail, using the same nail find the hole and puncture the fabric.

{15}

Screw your cup hook into the hole previously made.

{16}

Find a really great place to hang your new message board.

As a young girl, I found enjoyment in organizing my mother's pantry, removing every toy from the toy cabinet and then placing them back inside in an orderly fashion, straightening up the bathroom cabinet--making sure all the hairbands and what not where in their proper place, making sure my bed sheets were neatly folded down when I slipped into bed. That just doesn't seem right, but it is true. I still do enjoy having things somewhat organized and in their place, but not near like I did as a young girl, thankfully; I have a two year old after all. I have had the privilege of whipping up a few organizers for some great Etsy customers, which is always fun and a creative challenge. This is my latest custom Kitchen Organizer done in a terrific Amy Butler Fabric.

I gave this purse, well not this exact one, but one like it with different fabrics to my mother last year as a gift. It was designed by Kim at A Touch of Star Dust; she helped me choose the fabric combo that I thought would be fitting for my mom. It was beautifully sewn and the fabrics looked wonderful together. I have decided to write a picture letter in my mom's Mother's Day card this year, you can write one too, if you want. I think all moms would like one. In case you were wondering Mother's Day is May 10th, coming up fast.

According to Things to Make and Do(the book I snagged from the toy closet) you will need:

Paper

Pencil
Paste

Scissors

Old Magazine

Writing a picture letter is one of the most interesting things to do(cracked me up). You write some words and then, every so often, instead of writing a word you put a picture of the word in its place. You can either draw these pictures or you can cut them out of old magazines and paste them in place. (Things to Make and Do P. 23)

I plan to draw a picture in place of the word rather than cut them out of old magazines, although as a kid, making a magazine collage was one of my faves.

Vintage Sisters

You don't have to take a boat to get to this little shop, but you could if you wanted to...located just a hop, skip and a jump from the Mississippi river(singing song in my head to spell) in the Village of East Davenport, IA.

You could perhaps ride your bike, but you might want to trade your old bike in for this one once you get there...a basket for your goods.

No matter how you get there, you are sure to feel warmth as you enter from the lovely chandelier hanging in the small entry of the quaint 1920's house, not to mention the grand architectural iron gate.

Each time I get to visit Vintage Sisters, it is always a visual treat, come along and see just a few of the treasures.

Raise you hand if...these are actually old rubber glove molds, up close you can see the indentions that make up the grippy part of the glove. Just as they stand, they create a modern visual impact, but could also play double-duty as jewelry holders-draping necklaces or sliding rings.

That is pretty much what my hubby's six-pack looks like, but even better *wink*. I love the old-world masculine feeling created here with the typewriter, globe and books.

Old shutters can be used on the interior of your home flanking the sides of that perfect window in that perfect room.

Around every corner, you are sure to find a lovely mirror reflecting other lovelies...actually the wall hanging reflected in this mirror is made from hair, which I find a bit creepy, but I do admire the talent and patience of the creator.

An evening of decorating Easter eggs with Baby 'L' and the hubby turned out to me more fun and less disastrous(toddler+dye+water+eggs that break) than anticipated. I did have three dyed fingers for awhile, but they just reminded me of how much fun 'L' had plopping his eggs in colored water.

We just used your classic Easter egg decorating kit, but if you are up to amping your Easter egg decorating skills check out this tutorial for silk dyed eggs. They are pretty awesome.

Tutorial - Cookie Envelopes

~EASTER COOKIE ENVELOPES~

Supplies:
1. Paper cut to 8" x 8" square
2. Pencil
3. Cookies

4. Double stick tape

5. Optional: Embellishments (stickers, ribbons)

*Feel free to get creative in the type of paper you use: scrapbook paper, vellum, textured paper, pages of old books, sheet music, magazine pages.

Position your 8" x 8" paper like a diamond, as shown above. Measure and mark with a pencil, 3 inches from the top point on each side; do the same to the bottom point. Indicated as here.

Next, using the marks you made above, fold the two side corner in along those marks. You can now erase those pencil marks.

Once your two side corners are folded in, fold down the top corner, placing the point approx. where the two sides form a triangle, in this case a white triangle.

Do the same to the bottom corner, but first raise the top fold up so you will know where to place your point and make your fold.

Four folds later, you will have something that will look like this. Place a cookie or two inside, if you haven't already eaten them. Fold side corners, bottom corner, than top and fasten with double stick tape or a sticker.

Add ribbon and a sweet message.

These cookie envelopes could be used as handouts for birthdays, showers, or any other special occasion.

During my last visit home, I snagged this book from the toy closet, but don't worry, I did ask my mother for permission. I remember looking through it as a young girl. It is called Things to Make and Do and is part of The Book Shelf for Boys and Girls. As I began thumbing through the book, each page made me smile. Did any of you have this same book as a youngster? The topics and pictures are really old school and thought would be fun to share, so I will. I don't really know the publishing date because that page is missing, but it has that nice old smell to it.

How to Make Good Lemonade

For 4 people you wil need:

These Ingredients:

1 cup sugar

3 lemons

4 maraschino cherries

8 cubes of ice

4 cups of water

These Utensils:

Fruit juicer

Measuring cup

Saucepan with handle

1. Put the sugar in a saucepan

2. Add 1 cup of water. Place over the fire.

3. Bring to a boil. Then boil for 5 minutes.

4. Remove from fire.

5. Add 3 cups of cold water

6. Squeeze enough lemons to make 1/2 cup of lemon juice.

7. Add the lemon juice and stir.

8. Place 2 ice cubes and a red cherry in each glass.

9. Fill glasses with lemonade.

Now, I haven't tried the recipe yet, but I will-because I really love lemonade. In the meantime, let me know how it taste, but don't get mad at me if it doesn't taste good.

A new addition to Baby 'L's room. I have actually had them up for a couple months and they have been great. During a visit home, I stopped into a little store called Mud Pies-the owner had her cookbooks displayed in wall shelves like unto these. Upon my inquiring, the owner's father, know as "Daddy" said he would make me one. Whoohoo! I was thrilled. I knew one wouldn't cut the mustard with all of 'L's books( I could really use a couple more), so much to my delight my dad made me a second shelf out of scrap wood. I love them because the books are still out and accessible but aren't getting as much wear and tear from twinkle toes bulldozing them with his cat dump truck.

Speaking of books, Bear Wants More, is a fun spring read and is loved by Baby 'L'.

The bunny silhouette is painted on a canvas covered in Amy Butler's Lacework in Olive fabric. For directions on how to complete a silhouette canvas visit this link. The directions are given by Anna Maria Horner on the Martha Stewart Show. I choose to paint the inside of the silhouette rather than the outside.

Some old print blocks that I found at Vintage Sisters. I will be doing a post on Vintage Sisters soon. Do you happen to notice anything funny about these letter besides being backwards? The "g" it is really an upside down "a" and is the only letter not backwards. I didn't happen to notice, until I got them home, silly me.

A sweet little chick silhouette cut from a rose photo taken by my mom - then applied to a thin canvas and hung with shimmery ribbon. These egg cups will soon be replaced by decorated Easter eggs of course done by Baby 'L'. You can find these egg cups at target for a buck 99.

Promised Land

If you ever find yourself drifting through the wide-open spaces of the Midwest and have a love for all things vintage; peak by this little shop. Promise Land is located in the wee little town of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. It is tucked on the lower level of a historical brick building built in the early 1900's. It is run by Thressa Merriman, who seeks out antique and vintage lovelies and thoughtfully places them in her shop. Some of the items in her shop, she has brought new life to by adding her own personal touch (a little paint and love).

Birthday - Check.

Baby 'L's Birthday was a success. The list was completed with some help from my good ol'family. I even managed to get my dad and hubby to help me paint the fishing game sheet. It made for a fun humorous night. Pizza, cake and cupcakes were served. A pinata was added to the list, which was a hit right up there with rides on Dottie. I highly recommend a Pinata at any party. As for the handouts, I made snickerdoodles and packaged them in cookie envelopes made of a bandanna print paper. So a celebration indeed it was.

Birthday on the Brain

So lately, I have been creating a list in my head (that finally did get written down) of things to accomplish for Baby 'L' s Birthday. He is turning two, and to quote every other mother out there when their child bumps up another year, "I can't believe it". It is true, I simply can't, so instead of wondering where the time went, we shall celebrate.

The List

1. Location. Check.

The big red barn...conveniently located a few steps(big steps) away from my parents home. Isn't it wonderful? I just love it! It will be up in the hay-loft.

2. Appearances. Check.

Dottie, conveniently located in the barn. Hee! Hee! She is the sweetest miniature horse.

3. Food. going back and forth.

This is where my mind quit working. Should I stick with something involving the obvious "western theme" or go for something like pizza, enjoyed by most? I go back and forth in my own little head. The hubby says, " pizza" for the low stress, feeds a lot, less work reason. He is probably right. I also can't decide on cake and ice cream or cupcakes?

4. Games. Check.

*fishing game* you know, the one where you hang up a sheet decorated with fish and allow the children to throw a fishing line hooked to a pole over the sheet and retrieve a little trinket. Lots of fun!

5. Decorations. almost finished.

The fun part for me!

I made a banner out of whimsical western print fabrics.

I found this (above) vintage inspired child western fabric. I thought called out little tike Birthday.

Just for kicks, some images of cowboys from real old west - Wyatt Earp, Jesse James, Billy the Kid, Wild Bill Hickok. (I just printed them on transfer paper and ironed them on to muslin)

6. Thanks for coming - Handouts. ummmm?

Still deciding. I didn't want to do any type of small trinket, because the fishing game will take care of that. I have thought of sweetly packaging a couple cookies or maybe popcorn balls.

Valentine Flower Hair Pin

Red-hot Valentine Flower Pin.

Supplies:

* Felt (two colors)

* Thread - Needle

* Scissors

* Bobbie-Pin

* Ribbon

{1}

Using a circular object trace two circles with a pen on your main felt. The larger circle is about 2 1/2" in diameter and the second about 2 1/4". I used Baby L's playdough container, the top for the larger circle and the bottom for the smaller circle.

{2}

With your scissors cut the two circles out.

{3}

Next, cut out small triangles all the way around both circles. If would like them to be evenly space you may want to measure. Each triangle should begin between 1/4" to 1/2" apart.

They will look something like this.

Trim the corners in a rounding motion, making them look more like petals.

Like this.

Cut out a small circle to serve as the center of the smaller flower...about a 1/2" in diameter. Also cut out a heart by folding the felt in half and cutting half of a heart shape...the heart should fit in the middle of the larger flower.

{6}

Cut two pieces of ribbon and fold them in half. Make them long enough so they are slightly larger then your larger flower. Sew your two ribbon leaves to the larger flower.

{7} Next attach your bobbie-pin to your heart cut-out. ***You will want to make sure the flat side is facing you(this side will lay against your head) and the side with upside down Vs lays on your heart. Make several stitches up and over the upside down Vs.

{8}

Next attach your bobbie-pin heart to your large flower. You will want the opening of your bobbie-pin to extend behind your ribbon leaves. To attach just simply make small stitches all the way around the inside of the heart.

The front of your large flower might look something like this.

Place the small center in the middle of the small flower and lay it on top of the larger flower . ***If possible try to lay the smaller petals in between the the larger petals. Begin sewing the tow flowers together by bringing your thread through the back and up through the round center...make a few stitches on one side of the center.

{10}

If you need to add a few stitches to the other side of your flower center you and just simply slip you needle in between your bobbie-pin and bring your needle to the front.

The back should look nice and tidy with a cute heart.

And the front, cute as can be for your valentine...don't forget your red lipstick!

So, I shared with you my fabric love confession, which leads me to my first Etsy Mail share... fabric purchases. I must say, there are many wonderful shops to buy fabric from on Etsy. Most of my fabric purchases have been from the Fabric Shoppe. It is run by Jody, a creative mom of one baby girl. She also has an inspiring blog, Everyday Beautiful. On her blog she gives her customers the opportunity to share their projects for a chance to win fabric. As we enter the month of L-O-V-E,I must confess my love for fabric. Yeap, it takes up a smidgit part of my heart-a similarity my mother and I share. The captivating colors, patterns, and designs make my eyes happily dance. Fabric...used to snuggle up your new baby, keep you warm while watching your favorite movie, put a skip in your step when wearing your favorite duds, frame those windows with the picturesque view...ok, ok, enough said. Here are just a few fabrics taking up part of the smidgit.
Anna Maria Horner's Tablecloth in Green from her Garden Party Line of designer fabrics. I love all the bold bright colors she uses with strong lively patterns. To catch a glimpse into her life as a designer and mother check out her blog here.

Amy Butler's Clematis in Grey. It is soft, lovely and calming...a spa like feeling-don't you think. Joel Dewberry's Sparrows in Almond from his Aviary Line of designer fabrics. Well, the sweet birds explain everything.

Sandi Henderson's Avocado Ginger Tile for Michael Miller Fabrics. I imagine this fabric being used in a pink parlor, perhaps as drapes.

A Captured Thank You

I have had this idea in my head for awhile now and finally decided to try it out. Baby 'L' has received his share of gifts from family, friends and even neighbors. I decided to capture a few moments of him playing with some of the gifts he received for Christmas to use for thank you notes. I added a cartoon effect to the original photo, printed it on regular white paper and then glued it onto colorful cardstock. On the back I applied the thank you note that I typed up on playful scrapbook paper. I decided to keep them rather simple, but think there are so many neat ways you could embellish them with the availability of all the wonderful cardmaking supplies.

Snuggle up with a good book

My little guy received this book, To Market, To Market from Santa this year. It has become one of his favorites. The size of it is great with big silly animal illustrations and the text rhymes. Just a warning, be prepared to snuggle up with your little one and read it over, and over, and over....wouldn't have it any other way.

Magnets displayed on a vintage tray turned wall hanging!

My friend Cortney showed me how to make these cute fun magnets. I have since made them for friends, family, and co-workers. The funnest part is customizing them to the receivers likes. There is a good chance your magnet collections will quadruple by the time you are done.

So, Let's get Magnety

{No, Magnety is not a word, but is fun to say}

Supplies needed.

1. Modge Podge - Matte Finish

2. Clear flat back glass rocks

{it is best to use clear with out a pearl finish so your image appears clear}

3. Round Magnets about 3/4" in dia.

4. Small foam brush

5. Fun Scrapbook paper

6. stickers, rub-on stickers (optional)
7. Scissors(oops, not pictured)

1. Select an area of your paper you wish to use such as a flower or fun graphic and place your clear rock on top. Trace around the rock.

2. Cut out your trace just inside your traced line. You can always place it on the back of the rock to see if you need to trim it down a bit.

3. With your paint brush apply a thin coat of modge podge to the front of your cutout. Lay your cutout on the flat side of your rock and smooth with fingers.

4. With your paint brush apply a coat of modge podge to the back of your cutout making sure the entire surface is well coated.

5. With the modge podge still wet place your round magnet in the center and allow to dry for 24 hours.

When viewing from the front, your graphic may appear fuzzy - just wait for it to dry and it will appear cute as can be.

Appears fuzzy before it dries. * Once your magnet has dried you can wipe the front and sides of your rock with a damp cloth to remove any extra modge podge.

Great for gift giving!

During my Christmas travels, I headed down south to visit my sister in Southern Oklahoma. One afternoon, we decided to hit the town and go thrift store shopping in hopes of finding some hidden treasures and let me tell you my sister has found some good treasures. We did pick up a couple things and dropped into a little gift store that had candles and things. I came upon a soy candled called fruit slices and it smelled D-lish. The candles are made by Tracy, whom I met at the little shop. She was as sweet as her sweet smelling candles. You can check out her site at Small Town Creations. As a side note, one of my mom's favorite candles is pomegranate. Go ahead and make your nose do a little jig!

Out the Door Organizer

Recently, a sweet customer requested an organizer that could store cell phones, sunglasses, keys, and some credit cards. After some creative thought I came up with this as an initial design.

Conceptual Design

!!!!And The FINAL Product!!!

Two pockets for cell phones, two hooks for keys, two hooks for sunglasses and two elastic bands for credit card storage, sweetly embellished with fabric flowers. Functional and Fabulous!

To the Market we must go...

The leaves are falling, the morning air is brisk...to the market we must go. Our local Farmer's Markets are sadly coming to a close at the end of October. My little munchkin and I headed to a larger one this weekend.

I thought I would let the little guy walk with me through the market since he had been in the stroller a good part of the morning(shopping for fabric...he is such a trooper). I did, not so much shopping but a whole lot of chasing. He a had a grand time. I was able to quickly snatch up some Johnathan apples, green peppers butternut squash and two tiny little white pumpkins. The farmers graciously offered to hold him, but I fear it would have been a loss cause...the only thing to satisfy him would be the embracing of freedom.

The tables were piled with fall crop in beautiful warm colors.

Pumpkin Roll

Recently my hubby turned the big 3-0. One of his favorite deserts is Pumpkin Roll, so I made that instead of cake. I wouldn't say it is a healthy alternative to cake but is sure is yummy! I am still working on making mine look as delightful as my mom's.

Pumpkin Roll
Ingredients

3 eggs

1 cup sugar

2/3 cup canned pumpkin

1 tsp lemon juice

¾ cup flour

1 tsp baking powder

2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp ginger

1 tsp nutmeg

½ tsp salt
1/2 -3/4 cup. chopped walnuts (I would chop them up more than I did)

powdered sugar for dusting towel.

Filling:
6 oz. Cream Cheese
4tbs Butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 cups. powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 375. Grease and flour a 15 x 10 baking pan. Beat eggs on high for 5 minutes. Gradually beat in sugar, pumpkin, and lemon juice. Mix together dry ingredients, fold into pumpkin mixture. Spread in greased and floured 15 x 10 pan. Top with chopped walnuts. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes. Turn out on to dish towel dusted with powdered sugar and roll with towel. Let cool completely. Beat filling ingredients together until well mixed. Unroll and spread filling evenly. Roll and Enjoy!

Fun Fall Decor

While browsing through my pictures I came across these lovely fall photos. They are of a home that was on display in a Fall Parade of Homes.

I formerly worked at a furniture store that sold beautiful handcrafted Amish furniture. I loved working there and was able to participate with another Interior Designer in decorating and furnishing homes for the parades. In this particular home we used a lot of mission style furnishings.

An easy fall decoration...A basket filled with real and wooden apples sprinkled with fall leaves.

This was a fun project...a glass vase with fall twigs then filled with candy corn. Yummy!

Sneak Peak

A sneak peak of fabrics that are being used on new items coming to the shop.

First, coordinating fabrics by Joel Dewberry that will be used on a Mega Jewelry Organizer ( jewelry rack with earring frame below) . I just love the taste of fall these fabrics give you, the birds are cute too.

Second, Tortoise Plaid fabric by Sandi Henderson to be used on a jewelry rack. This fabric has become a favorite.

Third, A lovely fabric by Amy Butler. This fabric is a designer weight fabric making it thicker than a standard cotton. The pattern is gloriously big and the colors are serenely inviting. It will be the back drop for a crazy big jewelry rack.

Hope to have the items completed and listed within a week or so.

My First Post!

I have had such an enjoyable time creating items for my Etsy shop. It has also been fun to explore other shops and see some of the most amazing, cute, charming, colorful, peaceful, thoughtful handmade items.

So how did I learn about Etsy you say? One morning while playing with my sweet 11month old at the time, I caught a Martha Stewart Episode that featured an Etsy seller. It definitely peaked my interest so I headed to the Internet and there it was a hidden treasure Etsy.com. A treasure full of handmade goodness. The seed was planted. Thanks Martha! I am sure she will be reading my blog in the near future. Ha! Ha! I hope to share with you some of my discoveries on Etsy as well as maybe some other handmade goodness.
